Fantasy baseball fans, get ready! We all think we're God's gift
to fantasy baseball, so why not battle it out on the public stage? We've taken in all your suggestions, and we've decided to put
together a competitive, entertaining 2008 FantasyMLBTips Fantasy
League that we'll be blogging about regularly. Here’s the plan:
- HOW TO APPLY: Simply post a comment and tell us why you should be in the league. We'll take 8-9 of the most intriguing candidates, and let you compete against a few of our writers.
- APPLY BY: 6:00 pm CST, Tuesday March 11th. The chosen candidates will be notified via e-mail.
- DRAFT DAY: Saturday March 15th at 11:45 am CST. We've decided to do a standard-issue Yahoo-default snake draft since we want this league to be as standard as possible in order to entertain the most readers.
- PAYOUT: Will be 1st place— $300, 2nd place— $150, 3rd place— $100, 4th place— $50.
- LEAGUE SETTINGS: 5x5 rotiserrie style with AVG, HR, RBI, R,
SB, ERA, WHIP, W, K, and SV. 12 teams. Will be a daily league played on
Yahoo.

I'm a 23 year old consultant headed to law school next year that needs another competitive league to play in. I've been playing for 7 years now, and I'm a sabermetrics addict. I'd like to venture out into another league where I can test my skills against people I don't know as well. I'm very active and I can name the tentative starters at each position for every MLB team off the top of my head. Please consider me! Email is normanmitchell@gmail.com.

Hi, I'm an avid fan and follower of baseball and fantasy baseball and would love to join this league. I have been playing fantasy baseball since 1999 and have enjoyed every second. I spend most of my summer watching games, checking line-ups, and stat boxes. I have a Communications degree in Journalism and Public Relations and I'm a season-ticket holder for the Toledo Mud Hens0 the best minor league club on earth!

TIPS- I've been playing fantasy baseball since I was about 14,
searching the box scores and calculating points manually. Since the
internet boom, I've been playing religiously with friends or random
people. In my main league, I have never finished lower than 3rd and I've won this league 4 consecutive years. I play in public Yahoo winner leagues and consistently finish in the top 3. I feel that I have a strong knowledge of the game, both statistically and practically. I am an excellent writer and feel that
I can bring a humorous spin to a blog. Please e-mail me at chris.harston@gmail.com. I appreciate this opportunity to compete with the best.

Please consider me. I've been playing fantasy sports for the last 15 years. I have followed sports for 25 years total. I have a degree from the University of Florida in Sports management. I've pretty much played in every type of league.. from 20-team leagues to NL auction drafts to 5-year dynasty leagues. I play in multiple fantasy baseball leagues per year and I'm a reliable active owner. I'd love to be a part of something like this. My name is JB and my email address is JBHK289@aol.com

i'd like to be a part of this.
i was never a roto geek until a few years ago when i accepted a challenge to put my baseball acumen on the line. now, i'm a statistically addicted, live & die by my daily numbers, born to lose roto devotee constantly searching for the latest piece of information that will help me to achieve my ultimate dream... a higher than 5th place finish.
just think of me as your psuedo-statistical character. you know the guy. he's the one counting cards at the black jack table and always leaves with a stack of chips smaller than the one he sat down with.

Don Newman, 30 years old, Montgomery, AL
Fantasy leaguer for 8 years. 6 baseball
championship to my credit. Played college baseball.

I deserve to play because I have a very solid understanding of sabermetrics and I love to write about baseball. I'm a Sports Management major and I have an eye for talent having played select baseball for 10 years. I feel that I have a better understanding than most of which hyped minor leaguers will succeed their first year and which will not. I appreciate your consideration. johnb19867@hotmail.com

Well, I've seen this ad run for a few days on the espn boards and I'm typically not the type that responds to any of the, lets be kind and call them "league recruitors"...Most of them are 15 year old kids who are more worried about their team names instead of rules. I'm no kid, I enjoy being in leagues with grown ups. I've been playing in various leagues for approx 8 years now and have won several championships..always finishing within the top 4. I coach little league and basketball. I enjoy the competition and I play as a hobby but by no means do I slack off when it comes to my teams. I do take it seriously and play to win. I'm by no means a writer, nor do I consider myself an expert, but I am opinionated and experienced..And most of all I understand what it takes to compete and win..Thanks and Good Luck!

Hey fellas, I'm 28 and an instructor for the US Army. I've been playing FBB for 5 years now and have several championships to my credit. In the past I've always had a knack for spoting breakout players, drafting the likes of Utley, Fielder, McCann, Holliday, Sizemore, Hamels, etc.. when they were still relativley unknown and having them deliver huge seasons for me. I draft on my feel and try not to lean too much on other peoples predictions and rankings. I always field competitive teams, having never finished lower than 5th. I'm active, both in seeking realistic, fair trades and on the waiver wire. My top breakout candidate this year is Aaron Hill, when you look at his doubles and his progression the last couple years he is primed to take the next step and become a top 5 2nd baseman. I am a huge baseball fan and would bring a lot to this league

I work for the Phillies. If that's worth something, then pick me. I'll pay and I'll play. Oh, and I'm ridiculously, ridiculously good-looking.

Been playing fantasy baseball for 8 years now and been waiting for a challenge like this! The lesson I've learned over the years is to go with your gut and not let some overpaid ESPN fantasy writer talk you into something you don't believe in. Therefore, you should listen to what I will talk you into instead (like passing up A-rod to draft Matt Holliday). I know the game so well that going deep in a draft is child's play. And I somehow have a sixth sense to know just when to pick up the next stud pitcher on his way to the majors (i picked up lincecum and gallardo less than a week before it was announced they were coming up). If you want someone who's really going to challenge your so-called experts give me that call to "the show!"

I'm a 26 year old financial analyst from Red Sox nation. I have been playing pretty much every fantasy sport there is since freshman year in high school. We have had a baseball keeper league going for the past seven years and everyone takes it very seriously. I start all of my research in the offseason and have been preparing for a moment like this since the start of fantasy sports. I read pretty much every article that is posted but prior to every draft I construct my own rankings of players and scarcity charts because as much as an analyst can write, there are intangibles that go along with each player that don't factor into rankings. I would be very competitive in this league but at the same time I'm a realist and its baseball . . . anything can happen. I'd love the chance to compete. My baseball background includes all state baseball player, three year starter at University of Richmond and current beer league softballer. Would love to turn my bragging rights nationwide rather than in my small hometown. Thank you for the opportunity!

Fellas,
I've been in a league for 3yrs and looking for new competition w/ dedicated owners. Highly addicated to fantasy baseball more than any other fantasy sport, love the daily checking of stats, moves to be made, and trades to be offered or rejected.
If you are looking for motivated owners who care about the game and can't get enough, I AM YOUR MAN.

Hi, I'm a 27 year old graduate student (in social psychology) and I'd really like to join this league. I've been playing fbb for 4 years now, and I have never finished below 3rd place; however, I'd like to know if this says more about me or my competition thus far, which is one reason I want to join this league. Also, I like the possibility of blogging about this, because I've always talked about starting a blog or website but have never followed through. Thanks.
